ABOUT US
World Motorbike Tours was founded by Andy Gibb – not the singer, but quite simply someone with a love of biking and travelling.
After completing yet another journey, Andy had met enough people to convince him his passion for travelling coupled with his sensible business head, could make a lot of people happy.
Andy has build up a world-wide network of like-minded people who now make up World Motorbike Tours - from ex-pats in Thailand, to friends in Australia - all have the WMT ethos of adventure within them.
The sensible side of Andy's head rapidly built up dialogue and links with carriers for long-haul trips, suppliers of things such as tents, and local guides who offer the info the travel books don't get close to. The adventurous side of Andy's head simply got on his bike and experienced more and more as he rode further.
Tour Planning
Each tour is planned around known sever weather, such as rainy or typhoon season, and is done from our base in York, England.
We limit the number of bikers to each tour to ensure we can still cater for bespoke requests or detours. Larger numbers present more problems - are more formality...
Our team in York ensure all visas and passports are in order - as well as other detail such as cargo fees, hotels and campsite booking, knowledge of where to find spare parts, translators and the emergency services.
If required, local guides are recruited from the UK, and where possible, these are known to WMT from previous journeys. (In Kazahkstan for example, you must employ a local with knowledge of the roads and first aid before you are formally invited into the country....!)
It's also vitally important that our UK team are aware of your medical history too. Just in case..
On Tour
The WMT website will offer friends and families updates of progress through video and photograpy which we take of you!
It doesn't mean we have a professional camera crew with us (but many have offered!), but it does mean the tour leader will, where possible, take some footage of you on tour which (thorugh the wonders of technology) will be updated on the WMT website as part of Andy's live blog!
This isn't a substitute for you taking your own camera though - but it's great peace of mind for families who are following your progress from home.
